SK Hynix buys memory controller chip company

LONDON – Memory chipmaker SK Hynix Inc., has agreed to buy Link_A_Media Devices Corp. (Santa Clara, Calif.). The purchase price was not disclosed.
LAMD, founded in 2004, is a fabless chip company that develops SoCs for the data storage market. On completion of the acquisition LAMD will become a business unit of SK Hynix focused on customized NAND memory controller ICs.
NAND memory controllers are used in applications such as embedded multimedia cards and solid-state drives.

Flash controller companies are so hot these days. Apple buys Anolbit; LSI buys Sandforce; and now this. These guys are expecting everyone to move to SSDs from HDDs soon. I wonder what will happen to seagate and wdc!!

I think you are right....although hybrid solutions with SSD front end and HDD back end might allow Seagate and WDC to continue to make a living
