Half of vehicles to include voice recognition in 2019

PARIS–About 55 percent of all new vehicles sold globally in 2019 will feature voice recognition, according to market research firm IHS iSuppli.
In its latest report, titled “The World Market for Automotive User Interfaces," IHS noted that the increase in units will generate a significant revenue improvement, from about $81 million in 2011 to $170 million in 2019. Voice technologies will indeed be more commonly used for advanced functions such as controlling HVAC system, sending text messages and e-mails, IHS said.

“With voice recognition applications in the consumer electronics sector becoming more prevalent, users are now expecting this kind of technology available in their vehicle,” commented Nimisha Patel, analyst, automotive and transport research at IHS. “Consumers are looking for a seamless user interface across all of their devices, including the car. However, the challenge for OEMs will be offering this control in a safe way.”
